You will find the rooms for preoperative anaesthesia consultation on the ground floor opposite physiotherapy.
The anaesthetic interview at a glance
This is about your safety. Before every general or local anaesthesia, there is a detailed discussion in the preoperative anaesthesia consultation. This conversation has four objectives; the first step is to determine the state of health. Once the state of health is known, the individual risks of anaesthesia can be determined in a second step. Once the risks have been determined, they are minimised as far as possible in the third step by choosing the appropriate form of anaesthesia. In the fourth step, the anaesthetist will discuss all questions regarding the anaesthesia with you and address any remaining concerns.
You will be given an anaesthetic questionnaire before the consultation. Please, fill it out as carefully as possible.
If you have already had a general or local anaesthetic, we are interested in your previous experiences and any problems or incidents that occurred in connection with the anaesthetic. This also applies if the anaesthesia affected a relative of yours. This is because certain intolerances to anaesthesia, such as malignant hyperthermia, can be hereditary.
Preliminary findings or a short letter from your family doctor about your state of health, any medication you need, and any surgeries you have had.
This applies in particular if you suffer from a chronic illness such as:
chronic bronchitis,
bronchial asthma,
COPD,
coronary vascular disease,
heart attack,
cardiac, renal, hepatic insufficiency,
stroke,
sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS etc.),
or have any other suffering that may affect tolerance to anaesthesia.
List of medications regularly taken or to be taken.
Allergy card, anaesthesia card, and implant passport, or comparable documents (if available).
It may be necessary for you to undergo further examinations, such as blood sampling, electrocardiogram (ECG), X-ray, or a heart ultrasound. All these measures serve to keep the risk of anaesthesia as low as possible for you.
