Visceral Medicine Centre (Abdominal Centre)
Within the field of visceral surgery, diseases of the internal organs of the abdominal and thoracic cavity are treated at our clinic. One of our main focuses is the tissue-sparing surgical treatment of cancers of the digestive tract (intestine, stomach, oesophagus, pancreas, liver, etc.).
During the treatment of rectal cancer, we strive to preserve the anal sphincter as far as possible for reasons of radicality, even if the tumour is deep-seated. In addition, the surgical spectrum includes the treatment of benign diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, such as diverticulitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, gallstones, reflux disease, etc.
Due to fulfillment of the minimum quantity regulation, and special approval from health insurance companies, pancreatic (pancreas) and esophageal (esophagus) operations of all kinds are carried out in our department. The Johanniter Hospital is part of the Integrative Gut Center Bonn / Rhein-Sieg: Intestinal Center and Oncology Center with recommendation from the German Cancer Society e.V.
In addition, the department is certified by the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery as a reference centre for minimally invasive surgery, as a reference centre for thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and as a centre of excellence for obesity and metabolic surgery.
