Trauma Centre
Certified regional trauma centre in the DGU® Trauma Network
Since 10th of April 2013, the Waldkrankenhaus, under the leadership of the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery, has been certified as a regional trauma centre in the Trauma Network of the German Society for Trauma Surgery. The Bonn Rhein Sieg trauma network was established in cooperation with the Bonn University Hospital and other hospitals in the region, with the Waldkrankenhaus primarily covering the south-west of the region.
In Germany, up to 35,000 people are seriously injured in traffic, work, or leisure accidents every year. The aim of the network is to provide every seriously injured person with the best possible treatment around the clock, at or above standardised quality standards. Essential components of the trauma centre are the professional competence of all service providers involved, adequate shock room equipment, and standardised treatment procedures based on evidence-based guidelines from the German Society for Trauma Surgery. For particularly severe cases, cooperation has been established with the blood bank, neurosurgery, and trauma surgery at Bonn University Hospital, which guarantees a delay-free treatment process. The entire emergency team regularly participates in further training across all areas of emergency. Exercises are conducted at short intervals together with the medical simulation department at Waldkrankenhaus. This exercise concept is unique and is now also offered to other hospitals and medical practices within the region.
